Thuja occidentalis 'Filiformis' is distinguished by its modest size, its broad-branched growth habit and its weeping crown supported by a branched trunk. Its foliage is also very unusual for a cedar. At maturity, it reaches a height of about 2.30 metres with a width of 1.10 metres. This conifer has aromatic leaves when crumpled, formed from loose clumps of very weeping, flattened branches covered with scaly leaves 3 to 5 mm long. The leaves are intertwined, giving the twigs a flat appearance. The leaves are soft, glossy green in spring, acid green to yellowish in summer and dark green with a bronze hue in winter. The cones are slender, brown when mature, 8 to 12 mm long and 4 to 5 mm wide, with 4 or 5 scales. Plant several in a row to create an airy wall or set 'Filiformis' as a single specimen, it will add a unique texture and whimsy wherever it is placed.
